The Doctor like you've never seen him before!

Can you believe we're zeroing in on November?!!! And, as always, the first Friday of the month brings us a brand-new meeting of the Whoosier Network on November 4th, 6:30 PM at the Life Journey Church, 2950 55th Place, Indianapolis, IN! As well as the latest news from across the pond on Doctor Who, we continue the second half of the sixth season with "Night Terrors", easily one of the creepiest ep...isodes of recent memory (like the Silence weren't enough!), and "The Girl Who Waited", focusing on the amazing relationship between Amy Pond and her new husband Rory Pond... er, Williams! Hint: hane plenty of tissues on hand for this one! Also, we will have a special presentation of "A Fix With Sontarans" in honor of the passing of legendary TV personality Jimmy Saville, host of England's long-running series "Tops of the Pops" and "Jim'll Fix It".

Friday October 7th at 6:30 PM, the Whoosier Network will meet once again, and we're pulling double duty... both with our regular club meeting and the Whoosier Network Halloween Party! Both are taking place at the Life Journey Church, 2950 55th Place, Indianapolis, IN! To kick off things, we'll get some catch-up done with "A Good Man Goes to War" and "Let's Kill Hitler", covering the Doctor's rescue of Amy and her newborn daughter. Next, it's party time as we get things moving with the big party, which will be a pitch-in, so bring your favorite dishes, snacks, sodey pop/beverages (no alcohol, please), and your favorite games! And we will have a costume contest featuring fabulous prizes, so don't come as you are...

Well, there you are! Have a nice, long summer? Read lots of books? Take a few walks through the park? Ruin your mind with a whole lot of baseball and NASCAR?

Well, it's the fall, soldier! So get in line, suck in that gut, tuck in that shirt, and get ready for the Whoosier Network meetings as they resume on Friday, September 2nd at 6:30 PM as that good man who went to war returns to the Life Journey Church, 2950 55th Place, Indianapolis, IN! You'll find our line-up listed in the column to your right. In October, we wrap up Season 6.1 with "The Almost People" with a shocking twist that takes us to Devil's Run as "A Good Man Goes to War", and we see a part of the Doctor that quite frankly gave me goosebumps.

Sorry we're so late getting things up on this site, but we're breaking backs and rupturing spleens getting things together here at Who-Net Central for our sophomore year at the Indianapolis East Mariott, 7202 East 21st Str. when we descend on INCONJUNCTION on Friday, July 1st - 3rd!

This year we're dedicating our classic video line-up to two dearly departed members of the Doctor Who family: Nicholas Courtney, A.K.A. Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart of U.N.I.T., and the beloved Elisabeth Sladen whose life came to a tragic and unexpected end as her popularity reached its zenith with the Sarah Jane Adventures. We'll be showing the best of these great actors, including the Brigadier's final appearance on the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Karen on the 13th... or the 23rd?

According to the Doctor Who News Page, Karen Gillan's appearance on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, along with Diane Lane, is scheduled for the 13th of April... but according to my AT&T U-Verse schedulebot, that show is scheduled for April 23rd. I'll keep you updated if this situation is straightened out by broadcast.

First the Doctor, then River Song, and now lovely, sexy Amy Pond will grace the stage of The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Wednesday, April 13th at 12:35 AM when Karen Gillan shows up to promote the upcoming new series of Doctor Who! Lord, she'll probably start flirting with Geoff...

An Old Soldier Passes

Monday and Tuesday mornings sucked puppies this week.

Because not only did we lose the genius of comic and animation writer Dwayne McDuffie on the very day his DVD adaptation of All-Star Superman was released (and to unanimously positive reviews), but later that night I received word that Nicholas Courtney, the beloved Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, had passed away after a long bout with cancer at age 81.

It's a tremendous loss to all of Doctor Who fandom, as during Jon Pertwee's period on the series, the nature of the show at the time really established a "family" of sorts for the Doctor in U.N.I.T., with the Brigadier the military counterpoint to the Doctor's peaceful methods. But no matter how much we disagreed with his "blowing stuff up", Courtney always made sure that the Brig never came off as an overbearing "my way or the highway" military leader. His pomposity was always laced with humor and humanity, you could really see that he was an old soldier obeying orders, even though most of the time he would rather side with the Doctor on finding a non-violent solution.

Back from the abyss, with strength to spare!

Dee and I are kicking off 2011 on a very positive note: after a year of watching our '90 Lumina become so run down that we couldn't travel outside the bounds of Columbus without spending mucho dinero on rentals, we found a wonderful used car, a '96 Park Avenue Buick in terrific condition and runs like a dream.

Which means we'll be able to make the Who-Net meetings on a much more regular basis and not worry about the craziness and expense of rental cars anymore. I'm very much looking forward to this Friday's get-together (see the Next Meeting banner to the right). That we finally have a dependable mode of transport has taken a great depression off my shoulders and given me some hope after a long year of darkness.

The Doctor is coming to America, and TV's No. 1 Doctor Who fan is partying down as The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson will be an all-Doctor Who episode with Craig's special guest MATT SMITH. As those who have watched the late night talk show know, Craig is a huge Doctor Who fan, having referenced it many times and spoofed it in his various chats with guests and, of course, Geoff Petersen the Robot Skeleton. Amongst the many surprises planned, the DALEKS are going to invade the set! Will Geoff turn back the mutant horde and save the day... or will we see an unholy alliance between the defiant pepperpots and the gay robot skeleton?!!! Tune in tomorrow at 12:35 AM (EST) on your local CBS station!

Hi, Mark "De Boss" Dooley here, just reminding you that our regularly scheduled Friday meeting will not be this weekend, as we are replacing it with something may a tad more fun (or, at least, different)... the 2010 WHOOSIER NETWORK "Picnic of the Dead", taking place at Garfield Park, 2345 Pagoda Drive, Indianapolis, IN. The festivities begin at 11:00 AM (be watching for the Whoosier Network sign posted by the shelterhouse areas on the north side of the park). Bring your favorite goodies, grillers and cooking stuff (there is an open grill there), soda, snacks, and ice, ice baby! If you want to catch some sun, bring some lounge chairs and some games and be ready for some great fun and fellowship with your fellow Doctor Who fans!
